Modern day vector graphic created with AI in Illustrator
Vector images are created by mathematical formulas as opposed to Photoshop images, which are pixel based photos.
During the course the explanation given for vector v pixel images is if artists such as Vincent Van Gogh decided to use digital software for painting then he’d use Illustrator whereas photographers such as David Bailey would choose Photoshop.
Did you know that ??? —- Vector Images, a short history
Vector images have been around for decades having been birthed in the days of early computer digital art. In the 1960s, baby step days in computer graphics researchers at MIT and other institutions began experimenting with graphical displays, leading to the creation of simple vector graphics systems.
In 1963 Ivan Sutherland, king of computer graphics developed sketch pad a graphical user interface. Sketchpad allowed users to create and manipulate vector graphics using a light pen on a cathode ray tube (CRT) display.
It was a breakthrough that laid the groundwork for computer-aided design (CAD) and vector graphics.
Illustrator gives you the power to create vector graphics and create images from scratch or existing artwork using a variety of tools and techniques.
You could use the pen to draw your own artwork, import artwork from a drawing board or place an existing image. Once bought into Illustrator these images can then be recoloured, edited and generally manipulated.
It is used for editing existing artwork including logo’s, business materials and creating new graphic design artwork. On this course you would typically expect to learn how to use the tools and features to generate artwork from scratch, create flyers, marketing materials and enhanced graphs for business use.
